Why Use Protease to Naturally Boost Pet Digestion

February 7, 2018 By Ali Lehman

Pets experience digestive issues all the time.

Sometimes cats eat a houseplant they aren’t supposed to.

Maybe your dog gets into the trash.

Even well-meaning family members can feed our pets foods causing digestive upset.

If your cat or dog has an upset stomach, vomiting or diarrhea, contact your veterinarian in case of emergency.

For recurring digestive problems, a veterinarian trained in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) will address the underlying cause of your pet’s digestive issues.

A holistic supplement with digestive enzymes may benefit your pet.

Commercial pet foods, such as canned food and dried kibble, require very high temperatures to mass produce, killing natural enzymes.

Switching to holistic pet food, such as PET | TAO, and adding a digestive supplement could help aid your pet’s digestion.

Even raw diets, which try to mimic how cats and dogs eat “in the wild,” don’t include fur (fiber), guts and glands.

The four main digestive enzymes benefitting your pet’s stomach are protease, amylase, lipase, and cellulase.

This enzyme breaks down protein in the digestive system.

PET | TAO’s Harmonize GI Supplement contains all four enzymes to help benefit your pet.

What is Protease?

Protease is an enzyme helps break down proteins into amino acids for digestion.

Bodies absorb amino acids and reassemble them to create proteins.

Proteins are the major building blocks of bodies for the structure of muscles, skin, bones, hormones, cell signaling molecules, and immune response molecules.

Pets consume protein from meats and legumes.

Protease enzymes are produced by the stomach and pancreas.

How Does Protease Improve Pet Digestion?

When the bloodstream absorbs protease sourced from Aspergillus, it can hydrolyze dietary proteins and polypeptides.

When proteins and polypeptides leak into the bloodstream as food antigens, disturbances may occur in the body.

This enzyme eases the digestive process.

Many supplements provide proteases with other enzymes such as amylase and lipase.

Enzymes provide more benefits than improving digestion. They also:

  • Regulate hormones
  • Boost immune function
  • Reduce inflammation.

These enzymes are all found in PET | TAO’s Harmonize GI Supplement.

How About Side Effects?

Use only as directed by your veterinarian.

Responses to supplements may vary by animal.

Safety for pregnant or nursing animals is not proven.

Pets who recently had GI surgery or a GI ulcer should recover completely before instituting enzyme supplementation.

How to Use Protease with Other Herbs and Compounds

Protease’s benefits are best when combined with other compounds.

For example, a supplement including Alpha-Amylase, Cellulase, Protease, and Lipase would most effectively help your pup.
